Property Tax Exemption for Winter Storm Damage

On Friday, February 12, 2021, Governor Greg Abbott issued a Disaster Declaration in response to severe winter weather in Texas.  This declaration enables property owners in Rockwall County to file for a temporary property tax exemption under Section 11.35 of the Texas Property Tax Code for qualified property damaged by the disaster.  If you believe your property qualifies for this exemption, click HERE.  You must return your application and all supporting documentation (estimates for repair, receipts, photos, etc.) to this office by the May 28, 2021 deadline.  If you have questions, you may call this office at 972-771-2034.

Within this site you will find general information about the District and the ad valorem property tax system in Texas, as well as information regarding specific properties within the district.  Rockwall Appraisal District is responsible for appraising all real and business personal property within Rockwall County. The district appraises property according to the Texas Property Tax Code and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practices (USPAP).

The Appraisal District is giving public notice of the capitalization rate to be used each year to appraise property receiving an exemption under Section 11.1825 of the Property Tax Code for Organizations Constructing or Rehabilitating Low-Income Housing: Property Not Previously Exempt. 2021 Low Income Housing Rate: 10.00%-12.00%
